About the Book
Words can pierce the heart and destroy the soul; and at the same time, turn a life around. Poetry has the power to heal the pain of millions. Etched within the minds of children are countless rhymes that bring comfort during childhood and then progress into timeless classics that become daily affirmations in the lives of many. The familiarity these words have ring a specific truth to the reader who holds them dear; whether they be lyrics to songs or poems well remembered, whether they be philosophical, whimsical, or melodically written, whether they are written in the form of greeting cards, love letters, literature books, or within the great classics that line our library shelves, they bring a form of art that touches the human spirit beyond measure.
Within the pages of this book, you will find my expression of numerous circumstances and emotions as scenes unfold within the lines of poetry. You’ll find that you haven’t been alone during seasons of your life when you thought you had been. It is in this realization that I hope to bring some comfort and recollection. I’d like the reader to feel as though my poetry was meant for them. I want them to see my soul and at the same time, to feel their own; to look within themselves and know what I’m conveying.
In most people’s lives, we have that one great love that is just outside our grasp; or perhaps we’ve touched it and let it slip away. That love comes to visit memory and plays like a secret song that is written for you alone to hear. There is no one else on earth that could appreciate the melody or understand its verse. The entire world sways in harmony to the songs of unrequited love; however, they also understand the love that was returned and unattained.
As I sit during the hour of inspiration, I draw from my heart the pain, longing and joy that I’ve felt on that particular day. I find release of pent up feelings and memories that would otherwise stagnate my mind, by releasing them through verse. It is with great courage that I share with the world my life through journalistic poetry. My willingness to permit others to see the fragility of the surviving spirit with stark honesty has been a great test of strength. I’d like to inspire others to direct and channel their thoughts into something positive and therapeutic; it can be a great adventure!
